Yr 8 Leader Ship Camp

Fun activities, delicious food and spending time with friends, is what the year eight students of Point England did on the last week of term one. They went to Marsden Bay for memorable 3 days of Leader Ship camp.

After a very mundane bus trip from Point England School to Marsden Bay we had finally reach our destination. While we unloaded the buses the owner of the camp site and his wife came and introduced themselves to everyone their names are Michael and Gina. The next part of our arrival was to tour the camp site so that we knew where everything was.

Until it started raining, everyone started sprinting because we had forgotten to take our bags inside and by the time we got there almost everything was wet. Then we saw our got into our cabins and put all our gear inside. Next we played our first game which was something like guiding a blind snake, there was a leader in front who guided everyone who had a blindfold on. That wasn't really my favourite game because my team lost.

We had a lot of activities but I have to say my favourite was the water slide because it was really fun and all of my friends had fun as well. To make our selves go faster on the water slide we had to use a bar of soap my team used about three bars of soap and nearly two bottles of shampoo. Some of us had made a human chain which made us go even faster.

My second favourite would have been going on the kayaks, the only stink thing was that it was really cold. We went under bridges and had a backwards race where the winner would get an extra serving of dessert, I won so I got the extra dessert. After that my friends Promise, Taunese and I had tipped Miss Berry's kayak over and next thing she new was that she was cold, wet and swimming in the pond.

The thing I can't stop thinking about is all the FOOD we had cereal, toast and Milo for breakfast, cookies, fruit and a drink of water for lunch and for dinner we had delicious butter chicken with rice. My favourite would have to be the lasagne it was nice and cheesy with yummy hot mince and pasta. For dessert we had Ice cream with wafers and peaches and chocolate mouse.

Camp was really fun it was probably the best camp I've been to and I wish I could go again.

Prevent Being Sick

In Auckland the winter season is also known as the Flu season, temperatures drop down to as low as three or four degrees celsius. Did you know that Flu is short for influenza, the flu is an infection diseases caused by the influenza virus. The following below will show you how to prevent the flu from spreading to you and your family.

One way to stay healthy and clean is to take a lot of Vitamin C. It helps because the citrus in fruits like oranges, lemons, limes and plenty more keep you refreshed and healthy for many more days. Vitamin C also helps prevent Scurvy.

Another way to prevent getting the flu is the flu shot also known as the influenza vaccine. But the CDC recommend the flu shot only be for people over the age of 6 months. For healthy working adults if they were to take this shot they probably would have a balanced protection against this particular disease

Now for something that doesn’t help like the weather, when the weather drops bodies start getting cold and that is how people get sick. It helps to wear the proper clothing like jumpers, scarves, gloves and maybe a blanket if necessary.

So, those are some things that you can do to prevent yourself from getting sick. If you do these things, you should feel nice and well and be able to physical things with your family and friends.

What happened in the Long Week End

On a Saturday afternoon, me and some of my other family members were invited to my cousins birthday party at her house, she was turning 1, I had so much fun spending time with my family, we ate cake, sang happy birthday and played a few games with my auntie. She was the person who set it all up, the invites, the games and she even made all the food, it was delicious.

My favourite part was winning this cool game called Rubrics Race where we had to moves the tiles to match the pattern. The way I won this was doing cup stacking, we had to stack the cups and then put them back into the formation they were in, I had to race against my cousins Sonny and Ken. It wasn’t really hard but it was really fun.

Next We got to eat some really delicious cake I was lucky because I got to eat a corner piece. Everything we did was so fun, I’m very lucky to have a great family that cares for each other. After that it was time to leave and I was aloud to sleep over at my cousins house Sonny and Georgina and we didn’t get home until 2.30. The next morning we were still sleeping and everyone was so full because of all that food.

Being a Good Friend

What are Friends? A friend is someone who is kind, happy and reliable. Being a good friend means to be a great listener also to be honest. Friends are also really important because they are always their when you are feeling sad or lonely.

To be a wonderful friend, you would have to take notice of your friends problems. One thing you could do to test your friendship is to be yourself and if they don’t like you for who you are maybe that friend isn’t much of a friend at all. Just remember not everyone is perfect not even me but we’re all individuals and that’s what make us, who we are.

Things that don’t make a healthy friendship is being a jerk and not being trustworthy . Another way is not liking one anothers personality E.g not liking you for who you are, now are friend like that isn’t much of a friend at all.

If you get into an awful fight with your buddy, it’s always a great thing to ask for help but if it’s over something really silly like a hair tie or a pair of new shoes then make a chart on the days for who wears them. It’s a really cool thing to have a friend lot’s of people don’t even have a friend but their are still waiting.

Many people don't have a friend so make sure you treasure yours.
