Making Connections

Last week my group Aoraki and I had a session where we read a journal about war, sadness, lost, death, regret and more. Then after that we sat together and talked about the connections that made these stories link. Here is a picture of me and my partner Jordan explaining one of the links in the journal.

i luminate

Last week on Tuesday an amazing group of dancers called i luminate came to Point England School to perform their incredible light show to us. The three performers names are Lisa, Matt and Danny.

They performed to us in the dark so that we could see the lights clearly, my favourite part of everything was listening to the incredible remix they had made, they played really cool songs like Fancy, Talk Dirty and a lot more hip hop like songs. Everything was amazing from the songs to the choreography

What I was most interested in was what they wore, they wore black pants and jumpers with wires in them that were programmed to flash at certain times. There was a man named Bob who help make the lights work, he sat on the side of the stage doing almost everything behind the scenes.

After they performed the Yr 7 & 8's had a chance to ask them question like where else have they travelled, who is your role model, where do you live what version dab do you like and a lot more. Soon later it was getting close to three o'clock and I had to stand up and say a thank you on behalf of the school. Afterwards I think that there message to us (Point England School) was to dream big and to not give up.

I thought that it was amazing and very well thought out, I was really interested on how their costumes worked.

Yr 8 Leader Ship Camp

Fun activities, delicious food and spending time with friends, is what the year eight students of Point England did on the last week of term one. They went to Marsden Bay for memorable 3 days of Leader Ship camp.

After a very mundane bus trip from Point England School to Marsden Bay we had finally reach our destination. While we unloaded the buses the owner of the camp site and his wife came and introduced themselves to everyone their names are Michael and Gina. The next part of our arrival was to tour the camp site so that we knew where everything was.

Until it started raining, everyone started sprinting because we had forgotten to take our bags inside and by the time we got there almost everything was wet. Then we saw our got into our cabins and put all our gear inside. Next we played our first game which was something like guiding a blind snake, there was a leader in front who guided everyone who had a blindfold on. That wasn't really my favourite game because my team lost.

We had a lot of activities but I have to say my favourite was the water slide because it was really fun and all of my friends had fun as well. To make our selves go faster on the water slide we had to use a bar of soap my team used about three bars of soap and nearly two bottles of shampoo. Some of us had made a human chain which made us go even faster.

My second favourite would have been going on the kayaks, the only stink thing was that it was really cold. We went under bridges and had a backwards race where the winner would get an extra serving of dessert, I won so I got the extra dessert. After that my friends Promise, Taunese and I had tipped Miss Berry's kayak over and next thing she new was that she was cold, wet and swimming in the pond.

The thing I can't stop thinking about is all the FOOD we had cereal, toast and Milo for breakfast, cookies, fruit and a drink of water for lunch and for dinner we had delicious butter chicken with rice. My favourite would have to be the lasagne it was nice and cheesy with yummy hot mince and pasta. For dessert we had Ice cream with wafers and peaches and chocolate mouse.

Camp was really fun it was probably the best camp I've been to and I wish I could go again.

Immerion Assembly

On the first day of term 2 Point England school had an Immersion Assembly where teachers from all teams presented what they are learning about for the rest of the term.

During the assembly I found out that the funny team one kids are going to be learning about their favourite things and how it can be turned into art. Miss George and the other team one teachers, Miss Wild, Miss Peck, Miss Lal and Miss Dwyer had made a movie of their favourite things and had a quiz at the end, it showed who was paying attention. The prize was a mini size Whittakers chocolate.

The next item was team 2 and they are learning about the different seasons and the amazing colours that come with them, like how Winter has a sparkly blue and white colour when it comes and how autumn has a darker colour like brown, red and maroon, I would probably call them warm colours. So the team 2 teachers (Mrs Nalder, Miss Tumahai, Miss Eadie and Miss Szymanik) and their students will be learning about what colours come with which season.

Then it was team 3's turn and they had made another movie but this time it was about Grand Designs. Mr Blakey was the host and all the other teacher's in team 3 acted in the movie as well. The movie was about how 4 people who shared the same dream found each other on Facebook and decided to make their dream a reality. Their dream was to find the best location so that they could build their DREAM HOUSE. That's when I found out that team 3 students are learning about architectural designs and graphs.

An extra video was made by the team four teachers and it was so funny. There video was about made up superheros and an evil villain named Bear Baxendine who loves stealing chromebooks and how one day he decided to steal Bobby Johns chromebook but was stop by Bat Guy, Wondering  Women and Team Leader America. Team 4 are focusing on comic books and how comics come with more pictures than words.

Finally, I  saved the best for last the incredibly talented team 5 teacher's had choreographed a play about Point England’s team houses and what each waka’s true meaning is , Hine Moana is the Lady of the Sea, Te Aurere is the blood, sweat and tears, Hokule'a is the growing earth and Hikianalia is rising up into the guiding constellation of the stars. I thought the play was amazing.

This term our focus is the different colours that come with the waka’s and the design I can't wait until we start creating things
